Disciples Journey Group
What is a Discipleship Group?
A discipleship group comes together to experience the Grace of God more intimately through community.
They pray for one another, carry each other’s burdens, teach and encourage one another, take communion together, celebrate with each other in joy and grief. There are MANY commands in the New Testament on how we are to treat one another, and we are not able to experience this kind of living by merely coming to the church building on Sunday.
Below are some of the examples in the Bible of how we are meant to live together as a family, in Christ.
Discipleship and community with the body of Christ of is important to our spiritual growth. It is necessary for spiritual maturity.
We are commanded:
• John 13:34 — Love one another as Christ loved you
• 1 John 3:18 — Love through actions, not words alone
• Romans 14:13 — Do not judge or cause a brother to stumble
• 1 Corinthians 1:10 — Be united; avoid divisions
• 1 Corinthians 12:25 — Have equal concern for one another
• James 5:9 — Do not grumble against one another
• Galatians 6:2 — Carry one another’s burdens
• Colossians 3:16 — Teach and admonish one another
• 1 Thessalonians 5:11 — Encourage and build up one another
• James 5:16 — Confess sins and pray for one another
• Ephesians 4:32 — Be kind, compassionate and forgiving
• 1 Peter 4:9 — Offer hospitality without complaining
• Galatians 5:13 — Serve one another humbly in love
• Philippians 2:3 — Consider others more important than yourself
• Ephesians 5:21 — Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ
Community with others, in true discipleship, is where we learn and put these things into practice. The church is not a building. Sunday morning sermons are not “church”.
WE are the church!
